So what does the 2019 Dodgers season so far look like?

It’s September and how about those Dodgers.

We were mid-way through the season at right around the time of the All Star Break; the Dodgers were in First Place, not only in the Western Division of the National League, but also for the whole National League.

The Dodgers were well over 600% games won, the closest to them and in second was the Atlanta Braves at around 590%.

Many sport enthusiasms have already made the predication that the Dodgers will once again make it all the way to the World Series for the third time in a row

Maybe three times will be the charm for the Dodgers and they will come home with a World Series win.

Or maybe not!  If you have actually watch any of the Dodger games, win or lose, it’s not a pretty site.

They are sorely lacking in the ‘Bullpen’.  Just a few weeks ago I watch the Kershaw hand the ball over to bullpen with the score, Dodgers 6 and the Marlins 1, and of course you would naturally think that with a 5 run lead, no problem, ring up another win for the dodgers.

However, with the bullpen, nothing can be taking for granted. When the Dodgers came up to bat in the bottom of the eighth, the score was tied, 6 to 6.

The Marlins had scored 5 runs in the top of the eighth. Only due to the fact that the dodgers scored 4 runs and for Baez to hold it together to get the win .

Unfortunately, it has happened several times this season where the starting pitchers have handed a winning game over to the bullpen just to watch them blow it and unfortunately the dodgers haven’t been able to come from behind and take back the win .

However, the bullpen isn’t the only problem, Kenley Jansen isn’t pitching as well as he use to. Perhaps it is due to all the minor injuries taking their toll or perhaps it is the first sign of ‘old’ age creeping in.

Apparently this is not the first year that Jansen has had his troubles, last year many sports announcer were asking the same question, ‘What’s wrong with Jansen?’

Dave Roberts and upper management is going to have to deal with the above problems if the dodgers have any chance of not only getting to the World Series, but winning it at well.

At least the Dodgers did a few trades that have actually worked in their behalf.

They acquired Will Smith who would immediately become a fan favorite.

Then just before the July 31, 2019 deadline, they also acquired Tony Gonsolin, who immediately pitched four shut-out innings on July 30, helping the Dodgers get a win over the Rockies.

Tony had help from another played acquired at the same time, Kristopher Negron, and Tyler White who have also become instant fan favorites.

With all the dodgers that were on the DL, these additions were able to step-up and help the Dodgers stay in first place and hopefully will be a more rested team going into the playoffs and eventfully the World Series.

As Dodger fans, we can only hope that both Baez and Jansen will be up for the challenge or Dave Roberts will finally come to the conclusion, that neither Baez or Jansen are up for it and will use one of the several other pitchers, including Joe Kelly, that might be a better choice in the upcoming playoffs.

It will be great to not only see the Dodgers make it all the way the ‘World Series, but this time get the win, after all they say ‘that the third time is a charm’.

Tis the Season to be Jolly, especially if you are a sports fan! As 2018 draws to a close, many sports are doing the same. The regular season for College Football is over and, let, the college bowl games begin!

There were several major upsets in the world of college football, almost every Monday or Tuesday we saw the rankings change. When the regular season finally ending, there was only three college still undefeated, and that was Alabama ranked 1st, Clemson, ranked 2nd and Notre Dame, who is ranked 3rd.

As the month of December proceeds, the list of what college plays what college and in what Bowl game will they play at will be announced, and usually that is done on the first Sunday following the playoff games. This year that will be December 2nd.

However, College football isn’t the only sport, coming to end of their season, the NFL regular season is also slowly drawing to an end as well. In a few short weeks, we will be tuning in to the NFL to watch several rounds of playoff games and finally ending with the ‘Super Bowl’.

The Super bowl game will be held Sunday February 3, 2019, and Super Bowl XLlll (53) and it will be played in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

This year the Golden State Warriors will host the Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas Day.

All in all, it has been a great year for sports, no matter what sport is your favorite.
There were some really great wins and some very unexpected losses this past year in our National pastime, baseball. The LA Dodgers making it to the World Series once again and unfortunately losing once again. The LA Angels not even making it to the playoffs once again.

Also making the heading in baseball this year was the retiring of the LA Angels’ manager, Mike Scioscia. The only manager of the LA Angels to get them to the World Series in 2002 and win.

September Sports 2018, Here is your Sport Blog

Ah, September, summer is winding down and the days are cooling off and September 22 is officially the start of fall. Preseason football is over and the regular season will be starting September 06.

Most football fans have already selected their fantasy football teams, if not, they are definitely running out of time before the football season is upon us.

Just like summer, Major League Baseball is also winding down with just a month left before the payoffs and eventually the World Series will be here.

And unless the LA Dodgers can beat the Arizona Diamondbacks and stay in first place, the Dodgers won’t even make it to the playoffs this year, let alone a repeat as the World Series.

The Dodgers had a really good month of July, then with a whole lot of help with some questionable decisions by Dave Roberts and several key players on the DL, August saw the Dodgers drop from 1st place to 3rd place and with the win on the last day of August, they managed to climb over the Rockies to be in second place, one game behind the D-backs.

On August 4 the Dodgers played the Houston Astros, the team the Dodgers lost to in the World Series, and lost to them once again, only this time the score was a mind blowing Dodgers 0 and the Astros 14 and it was a home game for the Dodgers, what a terrible loss for the Dodgers and I think it was a loss for the records.

 The LA Angels aren’t doing much better than they did last year, maybe even worse. As we start the month of September, the Angels are in 4th place in their division and 16 games out of first place. Not sure why the Angels can’t seem to win, their roster looks good, and although they have quite a few players on the DL, most of their players appear healthy.

So, why aren’t the Angels winning? Easy question, but without an easy answer. A lot of Angel fans would love to see a new manager and perhaps a shake up in the lineup as well, who knows. Fortunately the owner of the team will have the off-season to figure it out.

With the start of the NFL and Baseball’s world series right around the corner, that’s already a full schedule, however, September is also the start of Basketball’s pre-season. The Lakers first game will be September 30 against Denver. The Clippers first game will also be September 30 against the Sydney Kings.

It’s August – That Means Football !! American Football

You can just feel the excitement in the air and around the TV sets at family or friends gatherings. It starts out slowly at first and continues to keep building.

It starts in late July with talks of who is getting trading, or who is coming off an injury from practice or even last year, but it doesn’t stop with that.  The sports reporters are also keeping us informed on the players personal lives as well.  Who got married, divorced, or arrested.

There is also the ever-increasing world of ‘Fantasy Football’.  Football fans are spending hours searching the internet for news on their favorite players.  Who’s got the best stats? 

What team has the best defense?  There is a strong believe that Fantasy Football is the reason the football has gain so many new followers than just a few years ago.  TV ratings are good for the individual games shown on regular TV, but with the return of RED ZONE’ by Satellite and cable it will continue to increase to an all-time new level, especially for ‘Fantasy Football fans.

Red Zone still continues to show all the games played on Sunday during the football season when the teams enter the Red Zone and with almost no commercials. It also keeps track of individual player’s stats.

The problem with Red Zone is the ever-increasing monthly fee, I tried it out when it was only a few bucks a month but now it can cost up to $15.00 a month if you have cable.

ESPN has taken it one step further for the needs of the fantasy football fan, they will keep track of your whole team’s stats and the stats of the teams your team is playing against every week.

This means that just before the season officially starts, sports fans will hurdle together and have their own drafting parties.  At these gathering everyone gets to select their players and their replacements for the season.

With the runaway success of fantasy football last year, the NFL is more than eager to help keep football in the news.  Unfortunately, all the news out there has not always been good, but it does keep football on the front burner.

We still have football players running into trouble with the law before the start of the
regular season.

You have to wonder what goes through their heads, just when the coaches and the team owners are watching every move they make they get into trouble.  Not a good thing when by the start of the regular season in September, the NFL teams will have to be down to around fifty or so players.  As a player who is on the edge and hasn’t quite made the team, I would want to be noticed for my skill and nothing else.

As a fantasy football player, not only do you have to be concerned with injuries, but who might be getting a suspension and for how long.

For those of us that also like watching college football, it is also gearing up to start, preseason will end in August and the regular season starting right around September 2.

I am a UCLA fan and the rivalry game between USC and UCLA, and they will be playing their annual show down on November 17 at the Rose Bowl this year.

There is a lot of talk by sport experts this year on what college team will be the best this year; so far Alabama leads the top of the list of the top 25 college teams once again

As a football fan while gearing up for the new season, will start out with a stop at our favorite local market for chicken wings, chips, and beer or wine, if we are going to be watching the games at our home or at a friend’s.  It will also include a quick arranging of our schedule to make sure we are within range of a television set, computer or even a cell phone to keep track of our fantasy teams.

April is Not A Great Month For So Cal Pro Teams. This past month of April went bye in such a burr.

For us sport fans, we barely had time to recover from the winter Olympic Games, March Madness and the start of National Baseball when we also saw the start of the National Basketball playoffs and even the National Hockey playoffs started.

As a Dodger fan I am a little concerned about how much losing the World Series last year would affect this year’s performance.   So far it seems that my concerns are right on the mark.  The whole team seems to have started the season without their normal spark.  They look and act as if they are still in spring training.   I cannot even remember when the Dodgers have had such a lack-luster beginning.   As of the end of April they are 12 wins and 16 losses. Thank goodness it’s the start of the season and not October.

Our hero Clayton Kershaw isn’t doing much better either, out of his last six starts he has 4 losses.  That is so unusual for him and along with rest of the team cannot seem to find their groove either.  Hopefully it will pass as the season progresses and they once again play as the team we have come to love and enjoy.

I had a really hard time deciding what to write for my February Sports Blog.

I could write about our LA teams. But where do I start? How about our hockey team, the LA Kings who for whatever reason have totally lost their mo-jo. They finally won a game over last place Rangers that ended the Kings’ six-game losing streak earlier this month, but as of now mid-February, they are in fifth place in the Western Division.

There are some quick fixes for what ails L.A. Kings, and hopefully they can do the necessary improvement before it’s too late.

The 2017 -2018 NFL season is winding down as we head into the NFL playoffs which by the way start this coming January. It most certainly was another season of controversy for the NFL with too many ‘red flags’ thrown, too many commercial, and too many injuries. It really did take away from the game this past season. Now add-in all the extra political nonsense and it made for a difficult football season for us sport fans.

When is Super Bowl 52 you ask? Will its right around the corner. Mark your calendars for February 4 2018 and it will be played at the US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

In fact the first round of the playoffs will start will the ‘Wild Card’ games the weekend of January 6th and 7th. Round two, the Divisional will be the weekend of January 13th and 14th. Followed up with the Conference Championship Games scheduled for January 21. Then on to the Super Bowl.

The good news is that as we slowly recover from the end of the NFL season and the wild Super Bowl parties we have the start of the Winter Olympics to look forward to.

The opening ceremony will be February 9 2018 and the games will run until February 25th. They will be played in PyeongChang in South Korea. It will be the biggest Olympic Games, with more countries and athletics participating. October 19th seems like a very good day not only for sports in general but for 3 upsets as well.

Even with the Dodgers having the best record in baseball, no one actually expected them to beat the Clubs and win the National Pennant this year.

Then you have the Raiders which no one expected them to beat KC , even though they were playing at home in Oakland, especially with KC being undefeated until this game.

Add to that the LA Clippers beating the LA Lakers and you have the last of the three upsets.

This day wrapped up with several very good NHL games on including a rivalry game between the New York Islanders and the New York Rangers.

There is still a lot of sports games to be played in 2017 but it probably will not be all four major pro-teams all on the same day.

The NBA playoff are over and done. Congratulation to the Golden State Warriors for beating Cleveland to become 2017 NBA Champions.

The NHL playoff are also done and congrats to the Chicago Penguins for winning the Stanley Cup for 2017.

Even baseball takes a break this month with the ‘All Star Game’.  This year the All Star break is July 10 to July 13.

However, July is also the month where the NFL starts making the headlines with next month officially the start of the NFL season.  Who got traded, who retired and who got lucky enough to get drafted out of college.

Those of us who play ‘fantasy football’ will have a bit of homework to do.  We will need to know who went where and who is no longer playing the game.  As well as who’s already on sidelines due to injuries.

The NFL season starts with the first Pre-Season game televised on August 3, 2017 with the Dallas Cowboys playing the Arizona Cardinals in Arizona. And although this is just a pre-season game, it will be watch by all us NFL football fans.
