They are several sports announcers and even several players claiming that unless there are changes in the way the NFL is played, the end of football is near. It has been said that Professional Football may be a dying sport.

NFL Football Season 2017, has had a rocky start.

Midway through NFL season, football ratings are down

I used to really love watching football, and I have been watching it since the early 60’s. Football has survived several strikes by players and lockouts by the owners, but this past year, it has been a combination of several things and has many owners and fans wondering about the future of football.

The Referrers have certainly done their best to drive professional football into the ground. There is no flow to the games anymore. Just as a team looks like it might be doing something interesting, there’s a flag thrown. Over and over again though out the whole game its flag after flag. Some are definitely called for, but you and I both know that some of the calls are so very iffy. Referrers should not be able to determine the winner of the game or what the point spread will be. They are just killing the game.

Then add the ‘new’ type of sports announcer. They are filled with all sorts of sport facts, but very little personality. They are so boring. They, themselves, seem bored with the game. Monday night football use to be fun to watch but now, not as much.

I wish Jon Gruden’s new partner would show a little more excitement for the game. Same holds true for other sports announcers as well. Thursday night game announcers rarely show any interest in the game let along any excitement.

You can also add the lack of really good players to the list as well. There definitely seems to be shortages of good quarterbacks or a decent front line to protect them and don’t even get me started on what happened to receivers that can actually catch the ball.

Football can and should survive any of the above, but all of them in one season? Then add the most damaging event that has directly affected football the most and that is the kneeling during the National Anthem.

TV viewers and what advertisers will pay for TV ads is where the NFL actually makes their money. They need sponsorship’s to pay the highly priced salaries of their professional football players. It also puts a whole lot of money into the owners pockets as well. But viewership is down by over 5%, which has gotten the attention of several sponsors, such as ‘Papa John’ and ‘Nike’ who are threatening to pull out of advertising during the NFL games

This Is Why the NFL Is Losing Viewers
http://stevetobak.com/2017/10/01/nfl-losing-viewers/

No matter how you look at it, football is a great sport. But it’s changing, and not for the better. I’m talking about the way the owners have turned pro football into a nanny sport. With all the nutty rules, penalties, play reviews, and game delays, no wonder googling “NFL no fun league” got more than five million results.

The league is losing millions of viewers every year. It will be interesting to see how the NFL owners, the players and their sponsors can do to fix this or if it can even be fixed. Let’s all hope that a solution can be found before the 2018 season.

There are people that will go to a game, like there was when we were ask to boycott football for Veteran’s day Weekend. You know those bargain seekers looking for these ticket they usually can’t afford. Those bargain seekers will not support the salaries these players are getting today.

Players, your salaries are being paid by today’s Sponsors and by people willing to pay those overprice tickets to watch you play. Those people that watch you on TV want a fast moving game with no politics.

I watch football for entertainment only, which football has not been this year. Add to that the number of people that only look at the stats for fantasy football and probably don’t even watch the games. Football as we know it today may come to an end.
