It has been a while since I have gone to a Hockey game or even watch a hockey game on TV.

What happen to watching Hockey?

Where are all the sports fans that follow professional hockey hiding?

The National Hockey League was founded back in 1917, and as of 2015 it consists of 30 teams.

At first there was only the Los Angeles Kings, and when Wayne Gretzky was traded to the Los Angeles Kings on August 9, 1988, it had an immediate impact on the team’s performance eventually leading them to the 1993 Stanley Cup Finals, and he is credited with popularizing hockey in California.

It also didn’t hurt that the city of Anaheim managed to get a hockey team of their own in 1993, called the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. The Mighty Ducks were originally owned by the ‘Walt Disney Company’. You would actually see ‘Tinkerbell’ fly over the seats during breaks in the game as well as a very angry ‘Donald Duck’ on the ice.

Eventually the team was sold in 2004 and in 2007 they won the Stanley Cup. The Mighty Ducks have dropped the ‘mighty’ from their name and have changed the name of their stadium from The Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim to the Honda Center.

It has taking years for the fans to flock back to watching their favorite team. However, like I mentioned before, you really have to look for the games on regular TV and most games are hiding within the vast amount of various sports packages offered by either cable or satellite.

It just as hard to be a Anaheim Duck or Los Angeles King fan as it is to be a MLB, Dodger fan. Just as The Dodger games are locked up by ‘Time Warner’ cable, so are the Duck and King games.

This year’s NHL playoffs and eventually the Stanley Cup playoffs drew the smallest TV ratings and sports announcers all jumping on the band wagon claiming its due to the game itself. The game needs to be tinker with, however I still think it is due to the lack of advertising to where and when the games were actually on TV.

No matter who actually saw the playoffs, congrats to the Pittsburgh Penguins for winning the Stanley Cup this year.
