2017 World Series Scandal

Sports blog – December 2019

Don’t know how many sport fans actually heard about the 2017 World Series scandal? 2017 World Series Scandal

It was all over Facebook and several sport sites, however not a whole lot of mentioning of the scandal on the TV news stations.

What it comes down to is simple, the Houston Astros cheated to win the World Series in 2017 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.  The Houston Astros however not only cheated to win the world series, but actually found it necessary to cheat their way into the playoffs.

2017 World Series Scandal, did all the players and staff know?

Now, how did they manage to accomplish such a task, easy, they simply used modern electronics and old fashion signaling to get it done.  Apparently they set up a live feed from behind second base directly into the dug out then would simply hit the bench, or a wall or clap their hands to let the batter know exactly what pitch was being throw by the pitcher.

Unfortunately, the sign stealing hurt Kershaw’s abilities but not as much as what it did to the two times Davish pitched, he become the scrape goat for the Dodgers loss of the World Series. Some fans have even apologized, but in my opinion,  even with the stealing of the signs, only Davish was totally destroyed, he just could not overcome the problem.

Rob Manfred, who is an American lawyer and business executive and who is the tenth and current Commissioner of Baseball, says Astros could face severe penalties for sign-stealing scandal.

The baseball commissioner says that there will be severe penalties for sign-stealing. In my opinion, that should mean a total forfeiting of the World Series.

Let the record show that for the year 2017, their was NO winner. It would even be better if not only they had to forfeit the game but the Baseball Commissioner awarding the win the LA Dodgers.

Now that would send a clear message to everyone involved in this scandal or in any future cheating scandals that “cheaters never prosper”.

A century after Black Sox, baseball cheating goes high-tech

As per Wikipedia, The Black Sox Scandal was a Major League Baseball match fixing incident in which eight members of the Chicago White Sox were accused of intentionally losing the 1919 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for money from a gambling syndicate led by Aaron Nelson, Aiden Clayton, and Arnold Rothstein. The fallout from the scandal resulted in the appointment of Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis as the first Commissioner of Baseball, granting him absolute control over the sport in order to restore its integrity.

Despite acquittals in a public trial in 1921, Judge Landis permanently banned all eight men from professional baseball. The punishment was eventually defined to also include banishment from post-career honors such as consideration for the Baseball Hall of Fame. Despite requests for reinstatement in the decades that followed (particularly in the case of Shoeless Joe Jackson), the ban remains in force.

Will Astros sign-stealing revelations lead MLB into a bottomless pit of scandals? msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/will-astros-sign-stealing-revelations-lead-mlb-into-a-bottomless-pit-of-scandals

One has to wonder what measures the MLB and their commissioner will take to prevent this from happening again. You only have to ask that, because, even though the Astros lost to the Washington Nationals, did they cheat? Personally, I don’t think this is going away any time soon, especially with the start of the 2020 baseball season begins in a few short months.

As for the Black Sox scandal, every player that know about the bribe was though out to baseball, My question now is should every play and staff be thought out of profession baseball.

Profession baseball is a big money sport and lots of money and many careers are made and broken by wants goes on in the game.

I am a huge fan of the game and I do not want to see a game that is fixed or a game where a team cheats to win.
